DIVISION TRAINERS

  • "Build, bend or break. Use what's necessary."

A man of few words - but when he speaks you can bet it counts - Founding Instructor Alex destroys boundaries and pushes limits like it's his job. It kind of is.

With years of professional boxing under his belt and an appetite for any sport ("except tennis"), Alex's training ethos is: Be an athlete first, then specialise when necessary.

Beyond getting paid to lift things, his passion for improving lives and building this community keeps him hustling 24/7.

  • "Everyone starts somewhere. Your journey may be different, but the ultimate goal is to be the best version of yourself."

Coming from a diverse athletic background that includes football and track & field, as well as modalities like calisthenics, Founding Instructor Haiqal is detail-oriented, unorthodox, passionate and one of the most patient people we know.

Division Athletics means the world to Haiqal - a space for the people and community to grow together positively in fitness and all other aspects in life, as well as a platform for him to express his passion for teaching and nurturing others to be better, every day.

  • “There’s no what if. There’s only what’s next.”

Ambitious, tenacious, and sometimes a little too energetic for her own good, Alicia is constantly looking for her next platform to progress.

Be it weightlifting, endurance races, or team competitions, she approaches them with trust in the process. And when she goes for something, she goes all out.

At the core of it all, Alicia believes that as much as it’s about what you hope to achieve in terms of results and performance, it’s also about just having fun — doing exactly what you love.

FUN FACT: Alicia can’t wear earrings.

  • "The workouts here are equal parts challenging and fun, the space is amazing, and above all, this community that's built around what we love is an absolute vibe."

With a background in calisthetics, soccer and HIIT, our Founding Instructor Gino believes that the human body is designed to be strong, dynamic, agile and flexible - making us capable of almost everything.

To him, it's functional training over aesthetics, any day (though we like to think he's championed both).

  • "Show up and embrace the suck."

Aside from physical gains, putting the work into training has taught our Instructor Shanell plenty of life lessons. With a background in strength training, HIIT and CrossFit, Shanell is just as comfortable crushing a metcon as she is getting under a barbell.

To her, the attention to detail and and specific intention behind every workout at DVSN allows you to train with a plan - and with that plan, comes results beyond expectation.

But if you want it, you gotta commit and work for it.

Fun fact: She used to hate on Crocs. But now she owns 3 pairs...

  • "Just do it."

For our Instructor Guan Yu, nothing calms his mind like a set of heavy lifts. Training - whether strength or conditioning - allows him to understand his body better as both an athlete and trainer. Despite his well-grounded powerlifting roots and dedication to the sport, his cardio's actually pretty impressive too

To Guan Yu, this diverse community of like-minded individuals provides a safe space for anyone to start(or pursue) their fitness journey - where fear and judgement are left at the door.

FUN FACT: "Luffy will be the next pirate king."

  • "Celebrate small wins everyday."

If you've met JY in the studio, you'll see that she's tiny but mighty (and that her eyes are always WATCHING).

And if you know her beyond the training floor,  you'll see that she's a pocketful of sunshine who cares deeply about people who are important to her.

From just doing high-intensity cardio in the past, JY now loves exploring new ways to move in her strength and conditioning routine - particularly endurance training, as it pushes her beyond her comfort zone.

To JY, giving others a safe space to fail, while still giving them room to challenge (and break) their limits is her why.

She's always seeking to do better, and be better.

FUN FACT: JY loves bread so much that she once paid $400 to a bakery.🥖

  • "Your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it."

Bubbly, diligent and always detailed, our Instructor Sheena leaves no stone unturned when it comes to coaching and her own training.

From a background in contemporary dance, yoga and barre, she's transitioned to making strength & conditioning her bread and butter over the past 3 years.

With a hectic schedule that always has her on the go, what keeps Sheena in the studio is her love of movement and the warmth of the community.

Sheena doesn't believe in stopping at the strongest, fittest or most knowledgeable version of yourself. Because in this lifetime, there is always room to grow.

FUN FACT: Her posture is so straight and upright to the point that people can recognise her from a moving bus.

  • "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." - G.K. Chesterton

Jaysen is an unconventional fitness instructor who brings a unique blend of energy, creativity, and a child-like spirit of exploration to his workouts.

Guided by his belief that "rich intention builds rich action" Jaysen enjoys detail in even the most mundane of exercises — and encourages his clients to approach their fitness with a sense of curiosity and playfulness.

Jaysen creates a dynamic and engaging environment that challenges his clients to push their boundaries and discover the full potential of their bodies and minds — all without losing the child-like wonder along the way.

To him, the spirit of discovery is just as important as the destination.

  • “Fall down seven times, stand up eight - every failure is a setup for a comeback.”

The moment you meet Xian, you’ll know instantly that she’s all about connection.

With endless energy (especially at 6am), a strict adherence to standards and a nurturing heart, Xian always strives to be the best version of herself, both on and off the training floor.

Her first serious foray into structured training was when she dived into the group fitness scene in 2019. Since then, it’s been several seasons of growth for her.

Passion for fitness aside, what fuels her is building bridges and forging relationships in and out of the studio. Being surrounded by giants, rather than being a big fish in a small pond, is what pushes her best to succeed.

To Xian, nothing is written in stone. Nothing is black and white. And everything is filled with endless possibilities - as long as you seek them out.

FUN FACT(S): Netball was Xian’s first competitive sport.

Also, coffee gives her migraines and she makes a mean matcha strawberry latte.

  • “There’s more joy to be found in the journey than in the destination. Work hard, work sustainably.”

With her wide range of goals, she works to strike a balance between strength, mobility, endurance and skill work - and is never satisfied with being just “good enough”.

Ari is a problem-solver through and through, and it shows in her coaching and meticulous approach to her own training.

She believes that there are always ways to progress no matter where you’re at, and that the possibilities for growth as an individual and a community are endless.

FUN FACT: She has injured every major joint on the left side of her body. But she’s all-right now :)

He approaches coaching and training with a curious mind and open heart - and is currently exploring a mix of modalities from bodybuilding to weightlifting.

To him, fitness is all about improving your day-to day-life - and improving day by day.

FUN FACT: Jared used to be a “high-class waiter”.

  • “Hard work pays off.”

When it comes to both coaching and training, Tris remains detailed and disciplined while keeping her standards high. From a background in HIIT, spin and CrossFit, her approach to training has since evolved into building a strong base of strength and conditioning.

Tris is all about patience and consistency — and it shows in her coaching style and energy.

She believes that when you dedicate time and effort to something, the results will inevitably follow.

FUN FACT: Tris used to be part of a Chinese orchestra group (and she was VERY involved).

  • “Don't limit your challenges - challenge your limits.”

In line with her driven and authentic spirit, sports and fitness has been a big part of Mel’s life for a long time. After being sidelined by an injury from netball, she jumped back into fitness as a group class instructor.

Currently, her focus is on strength training and bodybuilding - but she still loves integrating conditioning into their training.

To Mel, enjoyment and growth go hand in hand.

FUN FACT: If you ever need someone to catch a cockroach, Mel’s your best bet.

  • “When there’s a will, there’s a smith.”

To be a good coach, you have to be a good athlete - that’s what Justin believes.

With a background in track and field, power and strength form the cornerstone of his training today. Plyometrics, power movements and just pure lifting heavy - but it’s always intention over numbers for him.

Justin is all about progressing gradually day by day, and seeking out the next thing to push his limits.

FUN FACT: he has a younger brother who's an actor in Mediacorp.

  • “Your body achieves what the mind believes.”

If you’ve met Shaun, the first thing that stands out is his sunny and positive personality.

As an ex-dragon boat athlete, his forte is power and explosiveness - and a penchant for never being satisfied with the status quo.

Since then, Shaun has explored many facets of fitness - from calisthenics to weightlifting - which he pursues systematically with meaningful progress in mind.

Despite his chaotic life schedule and spontaneity, Shaun keeps his dedication and effort to growth constant, with no compromise.

FUN FACT: If misplacing things were an Olympic sport, Shaun would get a gold medal — and then promptly misplace it after that.
